Anica is HOK’s global sustainable design director, serving on the firm’s board of directors and design board.

Based in Washington, D.C., Anica is a mayoral appointee to the District of Columbia’s Green Building Advisory Council and co-chairs the Building Energy Performance Standard Task Force. She is serving a third term on the Green and Energy Codes Committee, supporting the district’s advancement to a zero-emissions building code.

In recognition of her significant contributions to sustainability, Anica received the 2023 Partnership for the Planet Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA)’s D.C. chapter. This prestigious award highlights her commitment and effectiveness in driving sustainable design practices.

Nationally, Anica serves on the board of the New Buildings Institute, on the ULI Net Zero Imperative Steering Committee and chairs the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Steering Committee, leading the rollout of LEED v5. She is a former chair of the AIA Codes and Standards Committee and co-authored, “Disruption, Evolution, and Change: AIA’s Vision for the Future of Design and Construction” with the AIA Blue Ribbon Panel on Codes.

Anica’s testimony before U.S. Congress and recommendations for building policies and incentives are included in the House Select Committee report, “Solving the Climate Crisis: The Congressional Action Plan for a Clean Energy Economy and a Healthy, Resilient, and Just America” as well as the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act of 2021 and the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

Globally, Anica recently served as a virtual delegate to COP28 and was a speaker and delegate to the inaugural United Nations Environment Programme Buildings and Climate Global Forum, advocating how the global building sector can scale up building decarbonization efforts to meet the targets in the Paris Agreement.
