Careers

We’re excited about the future. Design it with us.

HOK designs buildings and spaces that inspire people. We’re a diverse team of innovative, entrepreneurial people with an ambitious vision: to create the world’s best, most sustainable places. It will be your responsibility, even as the newest member of our team, to contribute right away. If this sounds good, let’s talk.

People at HOK

HOK’s geographic reach and commitment to its people enabled me to transfer from Tampa to our Seattle studio when my husband began a PhD program at the University of Washington.

Moving here has improved my professional and personal life. I’m working on fascinating new project types—including airport and justice buildings—and appreciate the twice-a-year “homeroom” meetings with studio leaders to discuss my professional development. I’m also enjoying all Seattle has to offer, including the amazing weather, scenery and seemingly unlimited hiking trails!
In addition to working on many different project types at HOK, I have appreciated the opportunities for professional growth and personal development. Both formal and informal mentoring helped me evolve from being an architect when I joined the firm in 2015 to my current role as director of operations for interiors in Chicago.

As our studio’s representative for HOK’s firm-wide Diversity Advisory Council, I also help celebrate our people’s varied backgrounds and contributions. In helping to recruit and retain a more diverse and inclusive workforce, I get to have conversations with talented colleagues from around the world.
I joined HOK in Toronto in 2005 and worked here for 11 years before leaving to explore another opportunity. But I missed my HOK family and soon was drawn back to work on a fantastic project. I returned with an appreciation for the care that goes into cultivating our special culture.

People can create their own paths at HOK—your career can be whatever you make it. Though the tension between work and family demands can be a personal struggle, HOK has supported my balancing of the two areas 100 percent.
Professional Development

Wherever you are in your career, HOK provides opportunities to learn, develop and apply your talents at the highest level.

You’ll be exposed to a huge cross section of domestic and international projects—for the world’s best, most forward-thinking clients—and feel empowered to make meaningful contributions.

HOK provides a robust framework for professional development. This includes a structured onboarding process, a wide variety of mentoring opportunities, studio design reviews, construction site visits, lunch-and-learn programs, Ask Me Anything leadership conversations, training that counts toward continuing education units and payment for professional licensure exams and memberships. A rotating emerging talent program provides opportunities for young leaders to participate on HOK’s core boards.
