The former stadium operator has joined HOK as a senior sports consultant.
Based in London, Richard Knight helps venue owners and operators navigate the complex strategic, financial and operational challenges involved with completing new or renovated venue projects. He advises clients on stadium operations as well as sports business trends influencing stadium design and delivery. Knight will collaborate with HOK’s global Sports + Recreation + Entertainment practice, providing strategic guidance and consulting to a wide range of project teams.
Knight helped lead the dramatic transformation of the 82,000-seat Twickenham Stadium, a rugby union stadium in southwest London that is the U.K.’s second-largest venue. He was a stadium director for the Rugby Football Union for more than 15 years, and helped attract major events including the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
“We are delighted to welcome Richard to our team,” said John Rhodes, director of Sports + Recreation + Entertainment in London. “His deep knowledge of sports industry trends and the operational aspects of our business offers our clients an invaluable perspective that will ensure the long-term viability of their venues.”
“My passion is ensuring that architects and operators collaborate seamlessly to plan, design and deliver innovative venues,” said Knight. “HOK has long been one of the world’s most progressive sports and entertainment design firms and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to inform and influence next-generation stadia. We will ensure that our clients benefit from venues that are not only iconic, but are operationally efficient and commercially robust.”
