Hunvey Chen Named Regional Leader of Healthcare for HOK's Los Angeles Practice

Project experience and background in architecture and urban planning make her well-equipped to lead HOK’s Healthcare group in Los Angeles.

In her dozen years at HOK, Hunvey Chen, AIA, LEED AP, has played a vital role on major healthcare projects including Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion, Scripps Prebys Cardiovascular Institute and Ventura County Medical Center Hospital Replacement Wing.

“Hunvey has distinguished herself as a leader who excels at thinking creatively about all aspects of healthcare projects, from strategy to programming and planning to implementation,” said Paul Strohm, AIA, a director of Healthcare for HOK’s global practice. “Both colleagues and clients value her expertise, professionalism and willingness to embrace challenges.”

“I look forward to playing a larger role in finding solutions that positively impact patients and healthcare providers and that are tailored for each project,” added Chen. “With HOK’s talent, resources and knowledge, the possibilities for what we can achieve in healthcare design are boundless.”

Scripps Prebys Cardiovascular InstituteChen served as a member of the HOK team on the award-winning Scripps Prebys Cardiovascular Institute in La Jolla, California.

In addition to her work at HOK, Chen serves on the healthcare steering committee for the L.A. chapter of American Institute of Architects where she champions industry best practices for medical facility planning, design and construction.

“HOK’s Los Angeles practice has not only benefited from Hunvey’s leadership and insight within the healthcare design sector but also from her initiative in creating a welcoming and inclusive culture at HOK,” said Anne Fletcher, AIA, LEED AP, the office’s managing principal. “Hunvey is greatly admired on so many levels.”

Chen is a member of HOK’s Diversity Advisory Council and captains the office’s softball team. She is also an avid hockey player and last year starred in an inspiring commercial for PowerBar that followed her onto the ice. A native of Los Angeles County’s San Gabriel Valley, Chen graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and from the University of Southern California with a Master of Planning.
