Miami Dolphins’ Baptist Health Training Complex

Miami Gardens, Florida

NFL players, coaches and staff need a single environment built around the full rhythm of a training day. This includes practice, recovery, nutrition, meetings and the business of running a franchise. The Baptist Health Training Complex brings all of it under one roof on the Hard Rock Stadium campus, planned around how those daily routines actually unfold.

Design Solutions

The complex sits within the Hard Rock Stadium campus rather than apart from it. Its massing and clean exterior lines pick up the stadium’s cool palette so that the two read as one environment, keeping the field—and game day—at the center of the daily experience.

HOK also led the design for the modernization of Hard Rock Stadium, the venue whose palette and lines the complex echoes. Because the building also works on its own as a year-round destination, the placement gives the organization a single home without losing its connection to the venue it serves.

A large glass entry opens into a tall, daylit atrium that runs the full width of the training facility. The atrium gives the building a clear organizing axis and a bright arrival space at its center. Curved wood tone slats wrap the walls and ceiling, their motion echoing the athletes themselves while warming the cooler exterior with a sense of modern luxury rooted in South Florida.

The design moved past traditional programming and adjacency diagrams to a closer study of how the building would actually be used day to day. The team mapped the routines, movement patterns and operational demands of every group inside it—athletes, coaches, medical staff, strength and conditioning personnel, equipment managers and football operations. Rather than asking only what spaces were required, the team asked how those spaces could work together to eliminate friction, reduce wasted movement and support peak performance. The result is a facility organized around measurable pathways and operational efficiencies.

Inside, circulation and adjacencies follow those routines, with clear sightlines to the practice fields. Spaces support the rigorous training, both mental and physical, needed to perform at an elite level. The program pulls those functions into one place. Two outdoor natural-grass fields and a full indoor practice field are positioned so players move easily between training spaces, classroom instruction and team practice. Alongside them sit a two-story weight room with a cardio deck, a hydrotherapy area, a recovery area with cryotherapy and isolation tanks, and locker rooms and a players’ lounge. Nutrition is treated as part of the daily routine rather than a separate stop: custom cooking stations and multiple refueling points are placed along the paths players already travel, so fueling happens naturally within the rhythm of the day. A full training day unfolds start to finish inside the complex.

Impact

The Baptist Health Training Complex opened in 2021, bringing the Dolphins’ football and business operations together on the Hard Rock Stadium campus. Since then, it has served as the team’s single base for training, recovery and daily operations.

Widely regarded as one of the premier training facilities in the NFL, the complex supports player well-being, performance and daily preparation while reinforcing organizational pride.

The training complex is also part of the broader transformation of the Hard Rock Stadium campus from a single-use venue into a year-round, multi-sport destination. The same design team shaped the Miami Open tennis campus and the integration of Formula 1 racing on the site, with each element holding its own identity while reinforcing the campus as a whole.
