Jacksonville Jaguars’ Miller Electric Performance Center

Jacksonville, Florida

The Jacksonville Jaguars sought a centralized training environment to support player health and wellness while strengthening the Jaguars’ competitive position in the NFL. The Miller Electric Performance Center responds by aligning football operations, practice fields and fan amenities in one location directly next to the team’s EverBank Stadium. It serves as both a high‑performance training environment and a new destination supporting the team’s broader vision for Jacksonville.

Design Solutions

Efficiency and Flow

The design reflects a ‘form follows function’ strategy to increase team efficiency. The center is organized around the daily routines of players, coaches and staff, placing a central locker room at the core of football operations. The locker room includes 91 individual lockers to accommodate full offseason rosters, along with showers, restrooms, a sauna and steam room.

Direct connections link the locker room to training, recovery, meeting and practice spaces to reduce travel time and support consistent routines. Staff offices, a draft room and medical and support facilities are integrated within this framework to keep decision-making and operations closely connected.

Training, Performance and Recovery Spaces

Training and performance spaces expand capacity and flexibility. The 9,500-sq.-ft., double-height weight room, with a 2,000-sq.-ft. cardio deck, is 38% larger than the team’s previous facility and includes 14 custom Jaguars-branded weight racks that allow more athletes to train simultaneously. A windowed garage door opens onto the practice fields for quick connections.

Indoor and outdoor practice fields extend the facility’s training capabilities. The indoor field’s turf system, made from coconut fibers and cork, improves permeability and foot stability while reducing surface temperatures by up to 40 degrees Fahrenheit through retained humidity and lower heat absorption. Adjacent outdoor fields connect to covered fan seating, allowing practices to be observed without disrupting team activities.

Recovery areas, including clinical support spaces, a cryotherapy chamber and hydrotherapy pools, improve access to treatment and support healing.

Athlete Connections and Well-Being

An auditorium-style meeting room with 153 seats (a 30% increase over the prior training facility) allows the full team to gather in one place to review film and attend presentations.

Dining and amenity spaces support comfort and routine. A large dining hall features multiple self-serve stations and a full-service kitchen. Clerestory windows flood the space with filtered daylight while glass curtain walls overlooking the practice field reinforce orientation and team connection. Additional spaces include a barber shop, player lounge and outdoor patio for player well-being and downtime.

Architecture, Materials and Artwork

Architecture and materials emphasize durability, clarity and connection. The facility’s double-height entrance is framed with bamboo paneling, creating a clear and striking arrival experience. Inside, interior environments balance performance with comfort and discipline. A neutral color palette reduces distractions while pops of Jaguars teal, black and gold celebrate team identity without overwhelming the space.

Precast concrete, metal and glass throughout the facility create a clean, modern aesthetic and allow the building’s systems and structure to remain visible. Expansive windows, both between interior spaces and along the building’s facade, support wayfinding and visual continuity. Integrated public art, including sculptures and murals by six local, national and international artists, contributes to a broader cultural experience across the campus.

Sustainability and Delivery

The performance center achieved LEED Silver certification, supporting long-term operational performance and player comfort. Sustainability strategies prioritized daylighting, shading, efficient building systems and durable, recycled materials to lower emissions. The project is projected to reduce energy usage by 28%, indoor water usage by 30% and outdoor irrigation by 50% compared to baseline standards. Dedicated electric vehicle parking is also available on site to players, coaches and staff.

The facility was delivered on time and on budget to meet the team’s deadline under a fixed, non‑negotiable 18‑month schedule. BIM tools linking 2D and 3D workflows allowed real-time visualization and coordination, supporting clear decision-making and reducing late changes across the schedule.

Impact

The Miller Electric Performance Center is positioned as a league-recognized training destination and a catalyst for surrounding development in downtown Jacksonville. Public-facing amenities, including 2,090 shaded grandstand seats, concessions, restrooms, a pro shop and public art, expand access to training camp and create an active, year-round destination. The project strengthens team operations while supporting ongoing investment and activity in the surrounding stadium district.

The center won ENR Southeast’s 2024 Best Sports/Entertainment Project award for its innovative design and craftsmanship. The Jaguars EverBank Stadium, immediately adjacent to the performance center, is now undergoing an HOK-designed renovation that will soon make it one of the most advanced stadiums in the NFL.
