H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Institute & Research Center Strategic Facility Master Plan

Tampa, Florida

HOK’s Healthcare Consulting group provided a strategic facility planning services for Moffitt Cancer Center’s main hospital and outlying clinics.

As one of the leading U.S. cancer hospitals, Moffitt integrates leading-edge research, education and clinical care to support its mission of preventing and curing cancer. It was experiencing rapid growth both in clinical volume and research initiatives.

HOK’s team evaluated Moffitt’s available space, projected future growth of each ambulatory service, analyzed the space needs of its ambulatory programs and suggested potential process improvements to enhance the overall patient experience.

Our plan demonstrated how Moffitt could, with minimal capital investment, expand its ambulatory care capacity by 20 to 25 percent by streamlining operations and optimizing space. The plan recommended creating more flexible model care and treatment programs to allow Moffitt to accommodate more patients and emerging technologies.

To position Moffitt to adapt to future care delivery models, the plan suggested forming an observation unit that it could use to quickly evaluate and treat patients without admitting them into the hospital. This allowed Moffitt to reallocate capital originally slated for acute care expansion to develop more comprehensive ambulatory services and robust research space.
