Institute for Specialized Medicine and Intervention Wins IIDA Healthcare Award

The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) recognized the HOK-designed Institute for Specialized Medicine and Intervention in the Ambulatory – Specialty Clinic category.

Excerpted from IIDA’s press release:

“The future of healthcare is being seen now via these types of spaces that are critical to healthcare professionals’ and communities’ rapidly changing needs,” said Cheryl S. Durst, IIDA’s executive vice president and CEO. “It’s an honor to showcase these design visionaries as they merge the necessary advancements in patient care with healthcare administrators’ operation, organization, and hygiene demands.”

Jurors for the award included Elsie St. Léger, former president of IIDA’s New York chapter; Kelley Dorsett, a senior interior design professional with HDR; and Brett Shwery, interior design director for AECOM.

“Each project not only exemplified the highest level of technicality required for healthcare design, but also went above and beyond in terms of ingenuity and originality,” St. Léger said on behalf of the jury. “The jury was incredibly impressed with each submitted project and is proud to honor these winners as those who stood out among their peers.”

More about the project:

Located in Kirkland, Quebec, the Institute for Specialized Medicine’s (ISMI) new radiology clinic focuses on health and wellness for underserved people, including women, trans and pediatric patients. Based on ISMI’s pillars of care dignity and hope, the interiors create a calming environment with soft, neutral colors and a minimalist design to put patients at ease. Biophilic elements, such as living plant walls, promote healing, while the clinic uses state-of-the-art medical technology to support its patients.

HOK’s Experience Design team branded ISMI’s clinic, logo and marketing materials. To cater to its French- and English-speaking patients, the logo and ISMI letterform seamlessly incorporate both languages. Graphics found throughout the clinic include a maternal, confident and warm feel.
