Boston's Green Gateway

Boston Logan International Airport Terminal A
Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Terminal A at Boston Logan International Airport is the world’s first LEED-certified air terminal.

The team designed this terminal to become a memorable part of a passenger’s travel experience. The design consolidated Delta’s operations into a new main terminal and a satellite concourse linked by an underground pedestrian tunnel with moving sidewalks.

As a primary focus of the design, the daylighting strategy strikes a balance between drawing in natural light and preventing glare. Terminal A also features a roofing membrane and paving designed to reflect heat from the building. Special storm water filtration devices remove suspended solids and total phosphorous from runways.

The building, which was the first major US terminal built after Sept. 11, 2001, incorporates new government-mandated security requirements.

The terminal earned the Jay Hollingsworth Speas Airport Award, which recognized its contributions to achieving better relationships between the airport and its local environment.
