Greenland Dalian East Harbor Tower

Dalian, China

HOK designed this mixed-use tower to be a beacon for Dalian, a major port city on the Liaodong Peninsula.

Developed for an international competition, the design creates a gently curving, triangular form. The 108-story tower reflects the boldness and symmetry of a lighthouse while conveying a symbol of grace and strength.

Located just south of the Dalian International Conference Center, the complex includes office space, hotels, residential units and retail with views of the Yellow Sea. From afar the singular triangular form of the main tower translates into a beacon with organically shaped openings recognizable from any direction in the city.

Three sheaths of high-performance, blue-tinted glass extend the full height of the building. Continuous at the bottom office levels, the glass separates at the hotel and residential levels to reveal gardens, residences and terraces. At the top of the tower a public observation deck rests above organically shaped openings that reduce wind pressure.

3.2 million sq. ft. / 297,000 sq. m.
