Barclays World Headquarters

London, UK

This 30-story tower provides Barclays with a contemporary headquarters that upholds the Canary Wharf commitment to quality.

The design of the floor plan concentrates service cores to the north, allowing for a bank of five atria on the south facade. These stacked glass enclosures, each six stories high, create lofty spaces that allow natural light to penetrate deep into the office space. Each atrium has a visual theme, offering areas for meetings or relaxation among informal plantings and striking commissioned artwork.

Externally, the atria can be seen rising up the south face of the tower.
Depending on the time of day and the light conditions, the building reads as an all-glass structure or as one in which the glazing’s stainless-steel mullions emerge to express a much different, more solid character.

Acting as an energy buffer, the atria combine with a green roof that is 520 square feet above street level and other sustainable strategies to help the tower achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating.

The ground-floor lobby, one of the largest in Canary Wharf, is linked below street level to major retail facilities and the Canary Wharf Underground Station. Other building amenities include a health and fitness center, a 365-seat restaurant and training facilities.
