HOK Honored by Bisnow for Championing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Bisnow’s Rise Initiative brings awareness to companies and organizations advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the commercial real estate (CRE) industry.

Bisnow recognized HOK and eight other organizations in its Rise Initiative program. The annual program recognizes companies with measurable outcomes that support diversity, equity and inclusion.

Kimberly Dowdell, AIA, NOMA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, a principal in HOK’s Chicago studio, accepted the award on HOK’s behalf at the Rise Initiative gala in New York on April 28.

The Rise Initiative honored HOK for its Diversity Advisory Council (DAC), which seeks to promote an inclusive work environment and help create a culture in which all of HOK’s people can thrive. Made up of volunteers from across the firm’s 24 studios, the DAC develops strategies and drives initiatives at HOK that promote an inclusive work environment and equitable design projects. One DAC initiative highlighted by Bisnow was HOK’s mentoring program, which includes traditional one-on-one, small group and cross-office mentoring.

“Bisnow has shown great leadership in launching the Rise Initiative to bring more awareness about diversity, equity, belonging and inclusion within the CRE industry,” said Dowdell, who co-chairs HOK’s DAC. “We’re grateful for being acknowledged as a changemaker for our efforts so far but realize there is still much to be done. We look forward to working with and being inspired by our peers across the industry as we continue on this important journey together.”
