HOK Designing Life Sciences Research Hub for Sanofi

Project in Cambridge, Massachusetts, will bring together Sanofi employees from multiple Boston locations and elsewhere to form a centralized campus for life sciences research.

Global biopharmaceuticals firm Sanofi has retained HOK for the buildout of a new life sciences campus and research hub in the Cambridge Crossing neighborhood where Cambridge, Boston and Somerville converge.

HOK’s interior design and lab planning teams are working with Sanofi to build out 900,000 square feet of space in two mixed-use buildings located near Lechmere Station. The new space will house research and development as well as administrative functions with amenity spaces to be shared by all employees.

HOK first began working with Sanofi four years ago to develop a strategic plan to move several of its existing operations to Cambridge Crossing. HOK’s design features an activity-based workplace and research neighborhood concept that supports flexibility, sharing, collaboration and innovation between the different departments.

Construction on the administration building is scheduled for completion this spring. The R&D building is expected to open in phases beginning this summer.
