9 HOK Project Openings We Look Forward to in ’22

From Scotland to Alaska, we’re counting down the days for construction to wrap on several HOK-designed projects in 2022. Here’s a look at a few of our biggest projects nearing completion.

University of Glasgow Advanced Research Center

Designed to attract and support world-changing discovery, this high-tech facility draws inspiration from existing campus architecture and the transformative research that will be conducted within its labs and workspaces.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport Terminal 5 Expansion

This major overhaul of O’Hare’s international terminal increases the building’s capacity by 25 percent, adds new gates, upgrades existing gates to accommodate larger aircraft and significantly improves the passenger experience. HOK designed the expansion with Muller & Muller, Ltd. and the Chicago Department of Aviation.

Emory University – Health Sciences Research Building II

One of the most advanced and sustainable buildings of its type, the 350,000-sq.-ft. HSRB II provides state-of-the-art collaboration and lab space for 1,200 biomedical researchers. Designed for LEED Gold certification, the building will operate on roughly half the energy of similar-sized scientific buildings.

Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center Expansion

Architects Alaska and HOK are leading the design for a major expansion to the Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center in Fairbanks, Alaska. Operated by the Tanana Chiefs Conference, the facility provides critical health services for Alaska Natives living within the state’s interior. The expanded health center, scheduled to open in the fall, adds new ambulatory care diagnostic and treatment space designed to reflect the culture and mission of the Tanana Chiefs Conference and its member tribes.

Florida Polytechnic University Applied Research Center

The Applied Research Center (ARC) will play a pivotal role in expanding academic program offerings and resources to support Florida Polytechnic University’s growing student population. The dynamic, flexible space will promote the growth of research, entrepreneurship, collaboration and connectivity across the Lakewood, Florida, campus.

Four Seasons Private Residences – Nashville

HOK is leading the interior design for this 27-story condominium tower in downtown Nashville. In addition to designing the building’s 143 units, HOK led the design for the building’s public spaces, including the lobby, rooftop deck and gardens, fitness center, show kitchen and—because this is Nashville—a music room where residents can host jam sessions.

AdventHealth Training Center – Orlando Magic

AdventHealth Training Center is a $70 million, 130,000-sq.-ft. facility in downtown Orlando that will serve as the practice home of the NBA’s Orlando Magic and a medical center to provide elite and amateur athletes with world-class, multidiscipline medicine with a focus on whole-person health and sports science.

Indianapolis-Marion County Community Justice Center

The Marion County Community Justice Center transforms a former industrial site into a new civic campus. Founded on principles of transparency, universal access and a holistic approach to mental health, this modern LEED facility is designed to transform justice in Indianapolis.

La Guardia Terminal B

LaGuardia Airport Terminal B – Final Phase

Final work on the redevelopment of LaGuardia Airport Terminal B—including the opening of a second concourse skybridge—is scheduled to finish early this year. The LEED Gold project is the largest public-private partnership in U.S. aviation history and already has won numerous awards, including UNESCO’s prestigious 2021 Prix Versailles Award for the world’s best airport.
