Located in Midtown’s Colony Square, HOK’s Atlanta studio brings the firm’s multidisciplinary team together in a workplace that reflects the city’s culture, creativity and energy. Designed to support collaboration while giving employees flexibility in how they work, the studio serves as a home for architects, interior designers, engineers and planners.

Design Solutions

Neuroinclusive design informed the workplace throughout, providing settings for focused work, collaboration and informal connection. Employees can choose the environment that best suits their tasks, work styles and sensory preferences.

An open floor plan organizes the workplace into three neighborhoods (blue, green and red) that reference Atlanta’s rapid transit rail lines. Each neighborhood provides varied seating, including sit-stand desks, focus rooms, huddle rooms, conference rooms of several sizes and touchdown spaces for collaboration and virtual meetings.

Meeting rooms are named for celebrated Atlanta figures, landmarks and local expressions, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Congressman John Lewis, the Peanut Brigade and Midnight Train, grounding the office in local identity.

At the center of the workplace is the 404, a hub with a break room, large conference table, lounge and gaming area that gives the team a primary space to gather. The lounge features HOK’s signature jewel box, sculptural lighting, multicolored gradient glass tables and artwork inspired by Atlanta’s graffiti street art. A pegboard wall displays models of notable projects alongside a map marking their locations, making the studio’s work visible and part of daily conversation.

The break area combines cork, bronze millwork, deep blue countertops, black tile and expressive lighting. A neon sign reading “Made with Soul in Atlanta” and other local references reinforce the studio’s connection to the city. Artwork, materials and furnishings draw on Atlanta’s culture to create a strong sense of place.

The studio also includes an interiors library, a maker space for building models and dedicated areas for pin-ups and design reviews that support hands-on collaboration, mentorship and creative exchange.

Impact

The studio’s location in Colony Square places the team in the center of Midtown Atlanta’s cultural and creative district, steps from the High Museum, the Woodruff Arts Center, active public spaces and MARTA transit lines, connecting employees to the surrounding community.

The workplace supports HOK’s culture of collaboration, mentorship, innovation and community engagement while helping bring its Atlanta team together in one shared environment.
