HOK transformed an aging, 1970s corporate campus to represent this company’s newly established medical device business and brand. The client wanted to use its new headquarters to rethink its workplace strategy, attract people back to the office and support hybrid work, including updates to technology and furniture.
HOK’s workplace pilot—the first step to the long-term redefinition of the campus—helped the client imagine the transformation and guide its decision-making. The pilot breaks down floorplates into different neighborhoods each with distinct work points for a range of collaboration and focus work needs. The pilot allowed rotating business units to test multiple work styles and provide real-time feedback on what works best for them and their team members.
Drawing inspiration from the company’s life-saving medical products, the team developed the concepts of a “heartbeat” and “pathways of energy” that tie the campus together and create areas of excitement.
A centrally located work café lies at the heart of the new campus. The open, daylit space reinforces the company’s commitment to community. Pathways leading to this central hub weave past collaboration areas. Materials, lighting and architecturally significant details in these spaces purposefully reflect the company’s new identity and showcase its brand.
