The project architect in HOK’s London studio is recognized among the rising professionals shaping the future of the UK construction industry.
Gideon Seglah, a project architect in HOK’s London studio, has been named to Building’s 40 Under 40 class of 2026. The annual list spotlights rising professionals across the UK construction industry.
A South London-born Ghanaian architect, Seglah has more than a decade of experience designing, managing and leading teams and projects across the UK and internationally. He has worked across all RIBA stages and in sectors including education, defense, residential, and sports and entertainment.
Seglah believes the built environment should serve people and strengthen communities while addressing practical considerations such as buildability, coordination, sustainability, cost and long-term performance. He also advocates for strong collaboration among architects, contractors and consultants to deliver lasting value.
Growing up in North Peckham, Seglah rarely saw people who looked like him represented in architecture. That experience shaped his commitment to making the profession more accessible and inclusive, particularly for people from underrepresented and working-class backgrounds. He works with organizations including Found Futures, Bridging Barriers and Women in Architecture UK to help students and emerging professionals enter and advance in the profession.
“Being ‘the only one in the room’ brought moments of self-doubt, yet it also strengthened my resolve to create space for others,” Seglah said. “Seeing more of us thrive within the industry reminds me that through every challenge, I’ve persisted and continue to grow.”
“Gideon combines a thoughtful approach to architecture with a genuine commitment to broadening access to the profession,” said Kirsty Mitchell, regional leader of Sports + Recreation + Entertainment in HOK’s London studio. “We are delighted to see him receive this well-deserved recognition.”
