HOK’s Keith Hui and John Neary Elevated to AIA College of Fellows

Keith Hui and John Neary have been elevated to the American Institute of Architects’ College of Fellows, an honor awarded to fewer than 3% of AIA members nationwide in recognition of significant contributions to the profession and society.

Keith Hui, FAIA, is regional leader of HOK’s Aviation + Transportation group in Seattle. With more than 30 years of experience, he has planned, designed and led award-winning airport projects that respond to evolving aviation demands while improving the traveler experience and airport operations.

Hui’s work spans major airports around the world, including Seattle-Tacoma, Salt Lake City, Boston Logan, Honolulu, Long Beach, and Calgary international airports, as well as Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru India, Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, and the New Manila International Airport in the Philippines. He played a key role in establishing HOK’s Aviation + Transportation practices in Seattle, Hong Kong and Houston.

Outside of project work, Hui is an active member of the Airports Council International’s World Facilitation & Services Standing Committee, where he works in the Future Travel and Accessibility working groups with representatives from 30 airports in 20 countries to advance the aviation industry on a global level. He also previously served on the Airport Consultants Council’s Terminal and Facilities Committee. He frequently authors articles and speaks on topics including master planning, terminal design trends and accessibility in airports.

John Neary, FAIA, LEED AP, leads HOK’s Facade practice from the firm’s New York studio. For more than 30 years, he has designed innovative, high-performance facades for civic, higher education, sports, aviation, commercial and residential projects. His portfolio includes LaGuardia Airport Terminal B, the Brooklyn Borough-Based Jail, the New York City Football Club’s Etihad Park, the Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center, the University of Michigan Health D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion and the USC Viterbi School of Engineering Dr. Allen and Charlotte Ginsburg Human-Centered Computation Hall.

Neary chairs HOK’s Technical Board Enclosure Knowledge Group, developing facade design guidelines and firm-wide resources on curtain wall systems, safety glazing, life-cycle assessment, code compliance and more. His independent and firm-sponsored research on facade performance and design has resulted in industry collaborations, publications and presentations at Façade Tectonics Institute conferences, USGBC Greenbuild and Zak World of Facades.

An advocate for education and research, Neary has taught and conducted design reviews at institutions nationwide, including the New York City College of Technology, Syracuse University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rice University, Kansas State University and Washington State University. He is a member of the Facade Tectonics Institute and has served on its Special Advisory Committee.

Hui and Neary will be honored at the AIA College of Fellows Investiture Ceremony at the AIA26 Conference on Architecture & Design on June 11.
