Valencia’s Roig Arena Achieves Construction Milestone With Installation of Eight Monumental Trusses

The $282 million multipurpose venue, designed by HOK and ERRE Arquitectura, is set to redefine Valencia’s entertainment landscape.

The construction of the highly-anticipated Roig Arena in Valencia, Spain, reached a major milestone last month with the successful installation of all eight monumental steel trusses. The trusses, each spanning 123 metres, required between 300 and 450 tonnes of steel and were assembled on-site before being lifted into position. The operation required two enormous cranes, each with a base of 100 square metres, which were transported to the construction site in pieces and assembled on location.

Led by LICAMPA 1617, an enterprise founded by Spanish entrepreneur Juan Roig, the Roig Arena is a $282 million project designed in collaboration between global architecture firm HOK and local practice ERRE Arquitectura. Scheduled to open in 2024, the multipurpose venue is poised to become Valencia’s premier destination for music, arts, culture and sporting events.

The Roig Arena will serve as the home base for both the men’s and women’s Valencia Basket Club teams. With a seating capacity of 15,600 that expands to 18,600 with standing room, the arena will offer an unparalleled spectator experience. Premium hospitality options and a flexible, intimate seating layout further elevate the venue. Additional amenities include a versatile multipurpose room and a car park that can accommodate 1,300 vehicles, both underground and in a multi-storey structure.

Beyond the arena itself, the project will help revitalise the surrounding neighbourhood with the addition of a nearly five-acre public park and new facilities for the local Les Arts school.

“The installation of these monumental steel trusses is more than a construction milestone,” said John Rhodes, director of HOK’s Sports + Recreation + Entertainment practice in London. “It’s a testament to the innovative spirit and collaboration that define the Roig Arena project. We’re thrilled to be creating more than a venue—this will be an experience that will resonate with the people of Valencia for decades to come.”

“We are aware of the transformation that the construction of the Roig Arena will bring to Valencia and Spain as a whole,” added Amparo Roig, partner architect at ERRE Arquitectura. “The installation of the eight trusses is another step toward the goal of creating a project that will be a game-changer for the city and will enable the enjoyment of events that were not possible until now.”
