New York Chapters of the AIA, ASLA and ULI Honor LaGuardia Airport Terminal B

The terminal received a Merit Award in the AIA + ASLA New York Transportation + Infrastructure Design Excellence Awards and is a finalist in the ULI New York Awards for Excellence in Development.

LaGuardia Airport’s new Terminal B continues to receive recognition for its transformational design. The New York Chapters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) presented the project with a Merit Award in the Structures category at the 2022 AIANY + ALSANY Transportation + Infrastructure Design Excellence Awards in June.

According to the AIANY, the Transportation + Infrastructure Design Excellence Awards celebrate projects “for their design, innovation, and impact, raising awareness about the critical role that well-designed infrastructure plays in our cities, our communities, and our lives.”

The Terminal B project is also a finalist in the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) New York Chapter Awards for Excellence in Development. With the awards ceremony taking place in November 2022, LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B is one of two finalists in the Excellence in Civic Development category.

Both awards honor the Terminal B design as a world-class airport transformation fit for the 21st century. They highlight the terminal’s unique public art, indoor pocket parks, abundant concessions and unique pedestrian skybridges that allow passengers to access gates while planes safely taxi below. The awards recognize Terminal B’s LEED v4 Gold certification, the first airport terminal to receive the certification under the more stringent sustainability requirements.
