Based on the 10- to 15-year plan, every one of Kansas State’s 16 athletic programs will see an improvement to their facilities.

The Manhattan, Kansas, university and the school’s athletic director, Gene Taylor, announced plans for 10 new projects. Add in two projects already underway and the total package of facility improvements comes out to $230 million.
“Our goal is to provide our teams the best facilities they need to compete for championships while doing so in a manner that makes sense for K-State, both financially and practically,” Taylor says. “Remaining competitive in these sports in Big 12 play is a significant priority.”
Kansas State worked with architect consultant HOK on the plan, taking time to interview every sport’s coaching staff and all department support units to understand the projects that fit the school’s needs.
The $230 million group of projects ranges in costs from $4.5 million for a golf complex to $85 million to renovate Bramlage Coliseum. Enhancements there include a new west-side entry plaza, a mid-level concourse and sideline club with a tiered chairback seating, a new hall of fame, expanded team store and additional office space.
Work at the football stadium isn’t over, though. A $29 million project adds new club and suite premium seating in the south end zone, expanding the Legends Room event space, upgrading restrooms and concessions and installing new video boards in the southeast and southwest corners of the stadium.
The football team would also benefit from a $24.5 million indoor facility and outdoor practice field. The practice field includes 65 feet of roof clearance and positions it with easy access to the Vanier Complex and football stadium. HOK expects the limestone exterior to match the stadium and campus architecture while allowing for enhancements on the east concourse.
Track and field plans a new $12 million facility and a $4.5 million upgrade project to the current indoor football space opens up additional possibilities.
Volleyball athletes can enjoy a $17.5 million competition arena with retractable seating for up to 3,500 fans. New locker rooms, staff offices, training spaces and a team theater round out the fresh facility. Adjacent to the volleyball arena would sit the new $13 million Olympic Performance Training Facility to house a strength and conditioning center, sports medicine, locker rooms, team rooms, equipment, storage and nutrition areas for Olympic sport teams.
Other plans include a new soccer practice pavilion for $5.5 million, a new golf complex at Colbert Hills for $4.5 million and a $14.5 million indoor tennis facility.
