Culture Meets Clinical: Infusing Alaska’s Tanana Chiefs Culture Into an Ambulatory Care Facility

The Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) is an Alaska Native nonprofit corporation and traditional tribal consortium of the villages of Interior Alaska charged with advancing Tribal self-determination.

Incorporating the TCC’s culture into a new 108,000-sq.-ft. ambulatory care center was imperative for the success and acceptance of the planning and design scheme. The new facility also is part of an existing campus and needs to respect and complement the existing context.

HOK’s Heather Fenniman will join Karen Stephens from Architects Alaska and Marilyn Andon from Tanana Chiefs Conference in a panel discussion. They will describe the delicate balance of prioritizing a specific culture while meeting substantial clinical priorities in the diagnostic and interventional environment. The event takes place at 2 PM ET on Oct. 25 at the Healthcare Design Expo + Conference at Cleveland’s Huntington Convention Center.
