University of Illinois at Chicago James J. Stukel Towers and Forum

Chicago, Illinois

This complex accommodates a mix of housing, meeting, dining and retail space designed to encourage students to spend more time on campus.

The buildings, just west of Chicago’s Loop, include a 3,000-seat convocation center known as The Forum, a residence hall for 750 students and a 150-seat event center. Retail and dining spaces link the different structures.

Exterior and interior lighting elements highlight the buildings while making students and visitors feel welcome and secure. Glass curtain walls and extensive daylighting reduce energy demands.

Conventions, trade shows and concerts held within The Forum generate additional revenue for the university.
