The Stanford School of Medicine’s clinical faculty and staff did not have an office space away from the hospital where they could come together to work, rejuvenate and collaborate with colleagues. Chance encounters and cross-pollination of ideas were virtually impossible.
HOK helped the medical school’s leaders plan their new office space and develop a detailed program that would accommodate all clinical faculty and staff in a highly collaborative work environment.
The program needed to be appropriate for departments of unspecified sizes and easily adaptable to future changes. The team conducted a space needs analysis and offered recommendations for department chair suites, faculty office sizes, desk sharing policies, and areas for idea-sharing, concentration and relaxation.
The final building program accommodated 940 people in 678 collaborative and quiet seats and also included a fitness center, cafeteria and faculty lounges.
