HOK’s Brian Temple Named to “30 Under 30” Leadership Class

Brian Temple

The St. Louis Business Journal honors the design professional whose work has influenced some of the region’s biggest healthcare projects.

Excerpted from the St. Louis Business Journal:

I’ve always had a strong desire to leave something behind in this world after I’m gone. That, coupled with my passion for creating, designing and exploring new things, led me to the field of architecture. As a designer on HOK’s St. Louis Healthcare team, I’m working on design and construction administration for several projects. I also have been on the team for a new 700,000-square-foot health care facility for a confidential client. I’m a north St. Louis native and look forward to furthering my career in the city I call home.

Age: 26

College: University of Missouri—Kansas City; Kansas State University, master of architecture

What’s one thing St. Louis does right, and what’s one thing it could do better? The city is very connected socially. Everyone is just two connections away from meeting a CEO or someone else in a position of power. Our public transit could be a lot better. We have limited options for how and where we can travel.

What’s the best career advice you’ve received? Get to know as many individuals as you can, show up to events, join boards and organizations and get your name out there.

What else do you want to accomplish by 30? I want to get into real estate, property development and management. I would like to find a new passion and hobby and hopefully turn that into a second income. Lastly, I have a desire to write and publish my own book.

What’s your most rewarding volunteer experience? In the past year, I have been on panels in which I spoke about myself and my career in front of young people. Speaking to young people always inspires and motivates me to continue on a successful career path.

Where can people find you if you’re not at the office? I’m out a lot supporting all the events St. Louis has to offer as well as events orchestrated by friends and acquaintances. This includes Connected Saint Louis, ManUp St. Louis, Sauce Food Truck Friday, Venture Café and Trailnet events, just to name a few.
