Algen Williams has joined HOK as a vice president and regional leader of Sports + Recreation + Entertainment based in Kansas City.

He joins HOK from Populous, where he was an associate principal and co-leader of the collegiate practice. Williams’ client-focused approach to the design of successful sports venues draws on his first-hand experience as a former football student-athlete at the University of Kansas, where he graduated from the School of Architecture.

“Algen’s 15 years of experience managing a wide range of projects, combined with his passion for innovative sports facility design, will be tremendous assets to our clients,” said Nate Appleman, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, vice president and director of HOK’s global Sports + Recreation + Entertainment practice. “He shares our passion for advancing the ways that fans and athletes experience sports and entertainment venues.”

“HOK is made up of collaborators and innovators who have a long history of challenging the status quo to create memorable experiences for fans and athletes,” said Williams. “The firm’s rich portfolio of work shows how deeply they understand the role of sports and entertainment facilities in serving as anchors for thriving communities.”

Before joining HOK, Williams’ project experience included renovations to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Florida; the University of Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium Renovation Master Plan in Knoxville, Tennessee; Colorado State University’s new multipurpose stadium in Fort Collins, Colorado; athletic master plans for the University of Florida in Gainesville and Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia; the University of Missouri’s East Side Memorial Stadium expansion in Columbia, Missouri; and the University of South Florida’s Sun Dome Arena renovations in Tampa, Florida.
