Designs on Reducing Recidivism

Michele Hutchinson describes how HOK’s team collaborated with a forward-thinking client team to design a humane environment for inmates and staff at the Maple Street Correctional Center in San Mateo County, California. Designed to reduce recidivism, this 832-bed facility was the first correctional center to open as part of California’s initiative to move nonviolent, nonsexual offenders from overcrowded state prisons to county jails.
