The atrium embodies the hotel’s unique design by offering a contemporary interpretation of the siheyuan, a traditional Chinese courtyard house. The siheyuan historically has represented the collective, mercantile essence of Jiangxi’s people by serving as the focus for trade and the exchange of ideas. In this Westin hotel, which is scheduled to open in 2019, 13 floors of guestrooms will surround this central atrium.
Open-air passageways offer common views to the courtyard garden. Decorative perforated metal window screens create a balanced rhythm, mirroring the social harmony and collective strength of the Jiangxi people.
HOK’s design for each floor features fine art displays showcasing contemporary interpretations of traditional crafts such as ceramics and carved jade sculptures. This infuses the space with a sense of place.
The Westin Nanchang will feature 277 guestrooms. Amenities include three signature restaurants, an executive lounge, a sky bar, pool and wellness facilities, and a conference space with a 10,765-sq.-ft. ballroom.
