Shell Woodcreek Campus

Houston, Texas

Beginning with an HOK-designed master plan, this multiphase project in West Houston’s Energy Corridor replaced Shell’s legacy office campus on an adjacent parcel of land.

Over a 10-year period HOK designed five office buildings with associated parking structures and an amenities building.

The third phase of the expansion included three Class A, 12-story commercial office buildings totaling 1.1 million square feet and two eight-story, standalone parking structures with 3,250 parking spaces. The office buildings feature tall interior ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glazing and high-speed elevators. Designed with sustainability in mind, these LEED Gold buildings include exterior sun shading devices, Energy Star roofing, high-efficiency glazing, an underfloor air distribution system and interior occupancy sensors. Engineered to withstand heavy wind loads, the buildings’ structural systems incorporate concrete frames and shear walls around stairs and elevators.  A glass-clad feature stair is engineered to appear floating as it rises from the ground.

A central quadrangle serves as the primary organizing element and social center for Shell’s campus. Heavily landscaped with plantings from a reforestation program, the quad includes an entry plaza with a central water feature, seating areas, covered pedestrian connectors and walking trails. The main corporate dining facility facing the quad has a large green roof and an outdoor upper-level activity area.
