A Commuter-Friendly Environment

Franchise Tax Board Campus
Sacramento, California, USA

“The proximity of the light rail station adjacent to the site provided a terrific opportunity to expand on and leverage the FTB’s programs. A light rail rider will be able to step off the train, walk 75 feet, enter the building and get anywhere within the campus without going outside.”

Steve Durham
Project Director, California Department of General Services

An existing regional transit light rail station catalyzed the plan for a new state office building campus for the California Franchise Tax Board’s 7,000 employees.

The plan orients the campus’ front door within just 75 feet of the Butterfield light rail park-and-ride station. A beautifully landscaped plaza transitions riders from the station into the center.

Just steps from the station, many of the amenities available in a town – a cafe, credit union, newsstand, dry cleaning and daycare facilities – are provided in a “town center” building that is open to the public and further reduces employees’ reliance on cars.
