LaGuardia Airport Terminal B Wins DBIA and ULI New York Awards

The project received a National Award of Excellence in the Aviation category from the Design-Build Institute of America and an Excellence in Civic Development Award from the Urban Land Institute’s New York Chapter.

The architecture and design communities continue to celebrate LaGuardia Airport’s new Terminal B. The awards recognize the project as a world-class modernization that meets the needs of a 21st-century airport, highlighting the terminal’s pedestrian skybridges, various shops and dining options, public art and sustainability features.

“It’s an honor for such a collaborative and innovative project to receive recognition from multiple organizations that are leaders in design, planning, architecture and more,” said Carl Galioto, FAIA, president of HOK. “We are proud of our collective efforts to make the Northeastern region a better place to live and work.”

The DBIA’s annual National Project/Team awards program recognizes project that exemplify the principles of Design-Build Done Right®. LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B took home the National Award of Excellence and was also honored with the National Award of Merit in the Aviation category and an award for Projects Exemplifying Meaningful DEI practices.

According to ULI New York, the Excellence in Development Awards “honor outstanding development projects in the private, public and nonprofit sectors across New York State that best exemplify ULI’s commitment to shape the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide.”

Project Team

The project was overseen by LaGuardia Gateway Partners, a consortium composed of Vantage Airport Group, Skanska, Meridiam, and JLC Infrastructure for development and equity investment. Vantage Airport Group led the redevelopment program and management of Terminal B, with Skanska Walsh as the design-build joint venture and HOK and WSP for design.
