Huntington Park

HOK’s design for Huntington Park, a 10,000-seat stadium for Triple-A baseball’s Columbus Clippers, provides a dynamic experience for fans while merging the past and present in the Nationwide Arena District.

The placement of Huntington Park, with its open concourses, creates a visual connection to downtown Columbus. Use of brick enables the architecture to enhance the fan experience by incorporating baseball’s nostalgia and history while integrating the ballpark into the fabric of the Nationwide Arena District.

Set six feet below street level, the playing field is visible from Nationwide Boulevard and allows passers-by to view the activity inside the park. Overhead doors for bars, balconies and suites open to give fans expansive views of the Arena District.

Designed to provide an entertaining experience for fans of all ages, the stadium features a family lawn, picnic terraces, kids’ fountain, and a tree-canopied main concourse with an outdoor grill and family-fun activities. Specialty and premium seating includes homerun terraces, 42 loge boxes, 32 suites, and a club bar and seats on the suite level behind home plate.

The Left-Field Building overlooking the park provides a unique fan experience reminiscent of historic downtown baseball stadiums. The three-level, 20,000-sq.-ft. structure supports year-round functions and includes the team shop, concessions and meeting space. The third level, which can function as an open-air or enclosed space, has rooftop bleachers and a separate concessions area.

Sustainable design strategies include reclaiming a blighted brownfield site, recycling more than half the construction waste and using regional materials for construction.

In 2015, Ballpark Digest honored Huntington Park as Triple-A Ballpark of the Year. “Huntington Park is truly a community resource, a ballpark with a great design run by a front office committed to the fan experience,” said publisher Kevin Reichard.
