HOK Names John Prevc Regional Leader of Urban Design in London

As an architect and urbanist with a distinguished three-decade career, Prevc specializes in the strategic design and delivery of large-scale mixed-use and higher education projects.

John Prevc, ARB, RIBA, is the new regional leader of urban design for HOK’s London studio.

“Every project should start with an understanding of how it fits within a city,” said Prevc. “I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues to explore how urban design can work across all of the sectors, disciplines and scales in which HOK works to help innovate and enhance all of our projects.”

“Whether it’s furniture, a building, a park or a city, John understands that all of these elements are interconnected and work together,” said Brian Jencek, RLA, ASLA, HOK director of planning. “He can look at the one-to-one detail of a building or the expanse of city and recognize important connections. He will bring great value to our team and clients.”

Prevc honed his skills working for some of the UK’s leading practices, including Grimshaw, Foster + Partners and MAKE Architects, which he helped establish in 2004. Over his 30-year career, he has worked on a diverse range of projects, including the regeneration of the Heygate Estate at Elephant and Castle, Wembley North West Lands in London, The Cube landmark mixed-use building in Birmingham, a masterplan and multiple buildings on the University of Nottingham’s Jubilee Campus, and the Dresden Central Station in Germany.

“The addition of John to our London studio reinforces our commitment to the UK and bridges the critical nature of placemaking with architecture,” said Daniel Hajjar, HOK managing principal. “We look forward to continuing to expand our urban design team under his leadership.”

Active in the broader industry and committed to advancing the profession, Prevc is a member of multiple associations including the Design Council CABE/BEE, Urban Land Institute, New London Architecture and the British Council of Offices. He serves as an external examiner for the Birmingham City University School of Architecture and Coventry University School of Architecture. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Architecture and a post-graduate Diploma in Architecture from Leicester School of Architecture, De Montfort University.
