IIDA New York Member Spotlight: Lydia Tiasiri, Interior Design Professional
Lydia Tiasiri, interior design professional based in HOK’s New York office, chatted with IIDA’s New York chapter about current design trends and finding inspiration in the city.
Excerpted from IIDA New York:
Q: What is your area of expertise?
A: I studied undergrad in Florence, Italy, then returned home to Bangkok, Thailand, where I worked primarily on hospitality projects located in Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. I selected New York City for my post graduate degree. Upon graduation, I landed my current job at as an interior design professional at HOK, where I’ve been given the opportunity to draw from my hospitality experience to work and create an upscale healthcare and wellness project.
Q: How has being an IIDA NY member helped you professionally and personally?
A: As a newcomer to the U.S. design world, the networking events and forums have really give me the opportunity to meet new people and experience more of the “scene.”
Q: Biggest trend in design right now?
A: Sustainable design strategies, as well as an ever increasing awareness of wellness in interior environments. Our clients are focused on the quality of the interior environment and how people will feel in the space.
Q: What projects are you currently working on?
A: I’m primarily working on a new wellbeing center that merges healthcare and hospitality on the Upper East Side.
Q: Where do you go to find inspiration in New York?
A: Simply walking around the city brings inspiration; there’s something for everyone. I think downtown Manhattan is constantly changing, so it’s a good place to start.
