Excerpted from the Atlanta Business Chronicle:
A nearly $200 million effort to revitalize a pre-21st-century downtown sports venue involves dramatic changes to its space configuration, seating and amenities, all aimed at enhancing the fan experience.
The Atlanta Hawks and the City of Atlanta’s partnership in the transformation of Philips Arena, which originally opened in 1999, into a “basketball-first, world-class sports and entertainment venue” is the Rehab/Renovation Deal of the Year in Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Best in Atlanta Real Estate Awards.
The rehabilitation will change the current arena configuration to get fans closer to the action and make concessions more accessible.
Lead architect HOK is “dramatically reimagining the seating bowl and reinventing the suite wall;” “incorporating a wide variety of seating options with diverse experiences at all price points;” and incorporating “new, 360-degree concourses to increase connectivity to the event.”
