HOK’s Dubai Studio Designs Bespoke “Lily” Lamp for Charity
Inspired by subaquatic flora, the “Lily” lamp recently sold at auction to benefit Surge, a nonprofit that provides impoverished communities with safe water and sanitation.
Like all good design, the Lily lamp began with a vision. Members of HOK’s Dubai office imagined themselves submerged in an underwater garden, observing the way light filtered through the aquatic plant life and refracted off the water’s surface.
Inspired by nature and biomimicry, the Lily lamp is also eco-friendly. Its “leaves” were made from plant-sourced fibers and handwoven into an abstract mat. The lamp, assembled in the U.A.E, is fully recyclable. Its LED bulbs require little energy.
Lily lamp sold in excess of its minimum bid price of 6,500 AED (1,800 USD) with all proceeds benefitting Surge and its commitment to bring safe water and sanitation to communities in need.
HOK’s design team for Lily lamp was made up of Maja Fiszer, Mira Patel, Alejandro Ribas and Sanjeev Coelho.
