HOK to Create Master Plan for Hartford’s Union Station Neighborhood
HOK and WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff will work with local and state officials to study redevelopment options for how the area around the city’s historic Union Station will fit into the reconstruction of I-84.
“HOK and WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff are being hired by the state to create a master plan for about 100 acres to the west of Union Station stretching to the corporate campus of The Hartford Financial Services Group. HOK worked on the Adriaen’s Landing plan, which includes the convention center and Front Street.”
“‘Now, we have the opportunity created by the new transportation connections being made in Hartford to reconnect our cityscape and re-imagine it for a new century,’ said Sean Fitzpatrick, the city’s director of development services.”
“The area around Union Station is expected to include a new transit station because train tracks must be moved to accommodate the highway reconstruction. But the master plan has a broader goal: stitch back together a part of the city that was ripped apart by the construction of I-84 in the 1960s. The plan also is expected to include new uses for Union Station and what commercial and residential development would best suit the area.”
