Skytrax Ranks Hamad International Airport as the World’s Best in 2016 Awards
Doha’s Hamad International Airport has been named the Best Airport in the 30-40 million passengers per year category and the Best Airport in the Middle East in the Skytrax 2016 World Airport Awards.
Skytrax polled air travel passengers of 106 nationalities, receiving 13.25 million completed entries, for the 2016 World Airport Awards. The awards, known as the Passenger’s Choice Awards, are considered a global benchmark of airport excellence.
As the landmark home for Qatar Airways, the HOK-designed Passenger Terminal Complex can accommodate up to 30 million passengers annually and has 41 unrestricted contact gates. The iconic terminal creates a lasting impression on guests, paying homage to the nation’s rich cultural heritage and natural environment. The airport also ranked highly in several other categories.
Skytrax also named Chubu Central International Airport in Nagoya, Japan, the world’s best airport in the 10-20 million passengers per year category. The joint venture project team included HOK, Nikken Sekkei, Azusa Sekkei and Ove Arup. The design created an airport with strong character, excellent connectivity and easy accessibility. Patterned after the Japanese art of origami, the terminal is shaped like a long, narrow T, with three piers radiating from a central ticketing hall.
