HOK’s Tampa Team Designs Renovation of Ronald McDonald House
For the firm’s HOK 24 / SIXTY community service initiative, a team from HOK’s Tampa office provided architectural and interior design to renovate multipurpose spaces in the Ronald McDonald East House in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Offering 34 bedrooms, the Ronald McDonald East House serves family members of pediatric inpatients at the adjacent All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine.
HOK’s Tampa team supported renovations of the house’s 6,830-sq.-ft. first floor, providing spaces for dining, activities and events, while making the space feel like home for families staying there. The project scope included the community kitchen, dining area, administrative offices, reception, lounge, play spaces and family intake areas.
HOK worked closely with the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) team to create an interior finish palette and to select furniture. The renovation included replacing existing incandescent and fluorescent light fixtures with more efficient LED fixtures to reduce energy costs. Finishes and furnishings were donated by manufacturers.
“Our work with the Ronald McDonald House of Tampa Bay’s East House reinforces our mission to play an active role within the community and to make Tampa Bay a better place to live, work and play,” said HOK’s Van Phrasavath.
