University Medical Center of Princeton Is Best International Healthcare Design Project of 2013
Building Better Healthcare (UK) has presented the award for the best international healthcare design project to the HOK-designed University Medical Center of Princeton replacement hospital in Plainsboro, New Jersey.
The award recognizes an exemplary healthcare building project that is located outside of the UK and creates a positive, supportive and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors and staff.
BBH UK judges called the project “inspirational.”
The 636,000-sq.-ft. University Medical Center of Princeton in Plainsboro, New Jersey, is a dynamic new center of medicine and technology, comfort and compassion, disease prevention and education. The new hospital features 266 private patient rooms, state-of-the-art emergency services, operating suites, and an array of ambulatory services and laboratories.
Drivers guiding the design included:
- Creation of the most modern accommodations to treat high acuity patients
- Management of lower acuity patients in a day case setting
- An efficient, safe and friendly way of organizing services
- Creation of a welcoming, intuitive and convenient place for the local community
