“Each element of HOK’s design, from the open and light-filled Commons framing the serene prairie to the state-of-the art laboratories, works to enhance the overall distinction and character of our school.”
The new Health Careers and Natural Sciences Building is a critical component of the College of DuPage, the largest single-campus community college in the United States.
The facility houses laboratory, classroom, office and instructional space for health careers education. It supports both the health sciences programs and natural sciences programs, including allied health, certified nursing assistant, dental hygiene, diagnostic medical imaging, nuclear medicine, nursing, physical therapist assistant, radiography, respiratory care, surgical technology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, biology, chemistry, zoology and botany.
An elevated “connector” links the new building with the Student Resource Center and outdoor spaces for student and community interaction. A prairie space provides valuable outdoor learning opportunities for the college’s popular botany program.
HOK’s design team worked with users, faculty and facilities representatives to develop a project program that was consistent with the college’s master plan.
