“Perhaps the most striking design element is the value that has been placed on natural light as an important way to reflect the value Biogen Idec puts on its employees and their comfort.”
Open laboratories and contiguous specialized support and office space enhance research efforts in the areas of analytical sciences, clinical immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, antibody discovery and tumor immunology.
The master plan is built around the concept of developing a central arroyo space within the existing terrain. A linear but organic building arrangement blends the architecture with outdoor spaces. A pedestrian bridge spanning the arroyo links the two sides of the campus and connects the main entrance lobby to the commons building.
This project includes 180,000 square feet of office space, 130,000 square feet of labs and 40,000 square feet of amenity and common space.
Testing architectural concepts against interior space plans helped HOK’s design team bring natural light into lab and office spaces.
