This facility, which serves the northern half of the National Capital Area, is jointly staffed by personnel from the US Navy, Army and Air Force.
The project includes a 520,000-sq.-ft. new ambulatory care addition, a 162,000-sq.-ft. diagnostic and treatment addition, upgrades to the central energy plant and utilities, and two new parking structures. An additional 380,000 square feet of renovated space within the existing medical facility supports patient care. The design realigns the facilities’ diagnostic and treatment, inpatient and outpatient facilities for ease of access and efficiencies.
A cancer center and a children’s center are part of the new facility The facility also offers physical and occupational therapy, as well as orthotics and prosthetics.
Because some of the facility’s more recent buildings did not complement the original design intent, the Walter Reed NMMC design unifies the new and existing buildings into a cohesive, efficient campus.
