A Healthcare Center
for Florida's Veterans

US Department of Veterans Affairs
Lee County VA Healthcare Center

Cape Coral, Florida, USA

HOK designed the new Lee County clinic in Cape Coral to adapt to the changing healthcare needs of the more than 200,000 veterans in southwest Florida.

This facility is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary specialty care and outpatient clinic offering services including primary care, mental health care, diagnostic radiology, laboratory services, audiology, cardiology with cardiac non-invasive diagnostic services, urology, GI, orthopedics, ophthalmology, dermatology, ambulatory surgery and advanced imaging including CT, MRI, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, mammography and vascular Doppler ultrasound.

The north and south building elevations are mostly glazed, which maximizes daylight and views inside the building. The walls at the building entrance have a stone veneer that creates a smaller scale and warm texture that leads visitors into the lobby.

HOK’s design arranges the clinic functions and diagnostic services around a central space. The space plan and interior partitioning optimize patient care and staff efficiencies.

Use of sustainable materials reduces waste and conserves energy. Design strategies reduce the building’s energy use by 30 percent compared to a conventional healthcare center.
