After joining the Big East Conference, the University of Louisville wanted to elevate the quality of its training facilities to help attract the best student athletes.
The center houses practice, training and rehabilitation facilities for the university’s men’s basketball, women’s volleyball and women’s lacrosse programs.
Located along one of the main entrances, the Yum! Center Practice Facility establishes a strong identity within Cardinal Park, the university’s athletic campus. The two-story, angled glass facade has vibrant graphics that reinforce the Cardinal brand.
Training, wellness and academic needs of student athletes are supported within the facility. The center has teaching spaces and breakout rooms in addition to 2,400-square feet of space for weights and cardio training, player treatment, rehabilitation and hydrotherapy.
The practice gymnasium for men’s basketball features two cross-courts and seats for 300 fans. The women’s volleyball team has a practice gymnasium with two full-sized competition courts.
Dedicated space for each program includes offices for coaches and staff, lounges and locker areas.
The press conference room and a 4,000-sq.-ft. multipurpose room used to host athletic camps, recruiting events and special programs are shared across multiple sports.
HOK designed the project with GBBN Architects.
