“It’s going to be a game changer for this campus.”

Grady Sheffield
Director of Campus Recreation Services, Towson University

The expansion of Towson University’s recreation center at Burdick Hall offers students a range of fitness options.

Located north of downtown Baltimore, Towson University is enhancing its student-life experience by creating a vibrant, healthy campus. In addition to accommodating more students and its growing recreation programs, the addition will become a cornerstone of Towson’s recruiting efforts.

HOK’s design for the expansion to Burdick Hall includes two multipurpose athletic courts, 22,000 square feet of new fitness space, an indoor inclined running track, a functional training area, an American Ninja-style obstacle course, group exercise rooms, a spin studio and a new office wing.

“It’s going to be a huge recruiting tool,” said Tia Freiburger, assistant director of facilities and operations for Campus Recreation Services. “Students will come to Towson and be really excited about all the opportunities this allows them to have.”

The facility is located on a prominent site along Towson Way, the main pedestrian walkway on campus.

HOK is the architect of record and prime architect for the project. GWWO Inc. is an associate architect and consultant to HOK.
