Xiamen, the second-largest city in Fujian Province, is among the top ten economic powerhouses in China and plays an important role in the emerging Chinese markets.
Working closely with the Xiamen Planning Bureau, HOK developed a concept to integrate isolated development projects and spark connectivity via a strong urban axis. A software park and three major corridors – one for business, one for commercial/entertainment and one for the community/culture – will connect the region’s vibrant urban fabric, linking ideas and industries.
A new urban infrastructure and 20 kilometers of road will form a comprehensive traffic system. The plan enhances existing natural corridors, using small-scale urban density development to accentuate open areas and public space in this fast-growing island economy.
