“Known as the Eastern Hawaii, China’s Hainan Island now has a new take on paradise with the MGM Grand Sanya.”
The design for MGM Grand Sanya creates a tropical resort where guests enjoy a memorable entertainment experience in an urban sophisticated setting. The space combines local cultural influences with the contemporary, fresh, fun and energetic MGM brand to provide guests with a “wow” factor.
A new six-story glass atrium seamlessly connects the two wings of the hotel and features as a focal point a sculptural abstraction influenced by the butterflies that inhabit Hainan Island. Because the sculpture is transparent, guests can appreciate the enormity of the space while passing through.
In addition to native flora and fauna, the unique locale also inspired the team to integrate traditional and classic Asian motifs in unusual ways. Silk, the fine dining restaurant, applies the idea of Chinese silk markets into its design with a wall featuring bolts of the luxurious material in vibrant colors and patterns. Rich woods, crystal chandeliers, and traditional Chinese motifs complement the material.
The hotel features 675 guestrooms, including 597 deluxe rooms, 72 suites and six exclusive villas. Additional amenities include five restaurants, a lobby lounge and cafe, pool and retail outlets, as well as conference space that includes a 14,000-square-foot ballroom.
