Luxury in Canary Wharf

Rising above the vibrant Canary Wharf district, this 32-story glass- and aluminum-clad tower is a striking example of the possibilities of high-rise living in London.

The first 12 floors of the tower house a 300-key Marriott hotel, while 154 apartments and six penthouses are located above. The hotel’s restaurants, bars, banqueting and public space are housed in a lower podium block.

The building is one of the first post-tensioned, concrete-framed towers in London, employing a system widely used in the United States and the Far East. This method reduced construction time by approximately 30 percent. Thin concrete floor slabs provide generous internal floor-to-ceiling heights while reducing the height of the tower.

The elegance of this building contrasts with some of the postmodern blocks constructed in the early days of Canary Wharf. The tower comes to an acute angle on its western edge, where a sharp “prow” contains double-height living rooms for the duplex apartments.
