The station connects air passengers with trains, buses, high-speed rail and the Underground.
The station consists of six platforms: two for the London Underground Piccadilly Line extension, two for Heathrow Express and two for rail service expansion. Glass-walled elevators link the subterranean station to the top-floor departures level.
The concourse has the character of a mainline station. Travelers have a clear route from platform to check-in areas, with the link covered by a lightweight tensile fabric roof that allows daylight to permeate into the deepest level. The natural light helps the underground station feel more like an above-ground space.
